Pricing has always been a difficult challenge in the area of surface technologies due to the large variety of different customer parts and treatment processes. Service costs and thereby price heavily depends on part geometry, handling efforts and other factors that are often hard to predict and the competitive environment leaves no room for a safety net. Striving towards pricing excellence, we decided to employ a data-driven approach leveraging historical transaction data to enable our sales representatives to offer more precise and fair quotes to our customers.

Aalberts surface technologies was supported by Merantix Labs throughout the whole development process. As a first step, they built a comprehensive self-service application that enables data analysis for different types of part geometries as well as treatment processes and provides smart price suggestions based on patterns in historical data. Through the collaboration, the foundations for AI-enabled transformation were laid.

After successfully paving the first stone, Aalberts surface technologies is preparing to launch the next initiatives to become an AI-powered organisation. The next step is introducing AI into further areas and processes of the value chain. Automated zero Defects visual quality control, optimising machine utilisation or establishing a predictive maintenance strategy are other possible AI application scenarios to further boost operational excellence.
